About Post-Processing in Additive Manufacturing

Post-processing is one of the most underappreciated aspects of additive manufacturing. When a part comes off a 3D printer, it is rarely finished — depending on the technology and material, it may require support removal, surface finishing, heat treatment, infiltration, coating, or a range of other operations before it meets specification.

Understanding post-processing is essential for anyone who wants to produce AM parts that are not just geometrically correct but functionally and aesthetically fit for purpose. This was the focus of the UMP training session.

What Participants Experienced

The training gave UMP participants hands-on experience with post-processing techniques relevant to the AM processes they work with. Guided by 3D Gens' technical team, participants progressed from understanding why post-processing matters to developing practical skill in executing key operations.

The feedback captured in the video testimonial reflects genuine participant experience — the value of learning in a real industrial environment, with practitioners who use the techniques daily rather than just teaching them.

Honouring the Partnership

3D Gens is honoured to have UMP participants join its training programme. Universities that expose their students and staff to industrial AM training create graduates and researchers who are better prepared for the realities of the field — and 3D Gens is proud to contribute to that preparation.
