Kolej Komuniti Kepala Batas (KKKB) is now equipped with a comprehensive 3D printing laboratory, featuring a full suite of additive manufacturing technologies sourced and set up by 3D Gens. The lab brings together Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM), Digital Light Processing (DLP), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and a 3D scanner for reverse engineering — giving students access to multiple technology streams under one roof.

An End-to-End Partnership

What distinguishes this project from a simple equipment delivery is the depth of 3D Gens' involvement. The engagement covered every stage of lab creation: design and renovation planning, equipment selection and procurement, full setup and commissioning, post-processing support, and the development of training courses tailored to the institution's curriculum and student needs.

This end-to-end approach reflects 3D Gens' understanding that equipment alone does not make a functioning lab. The environment, workflows, safety protocols, and educational content all need to work together for students to get genuine value from the technology.

Why Multiple Technologies Matter

Equipping KKKB with FDM, DLP, and SLS — alongside a 3D scanner — gives students a comparative perspective on additive manufacturing that no single technology can provide. FDM offers broad material flexibility and accessibility; DLP delivers high-resolution detail for applications like dental models and jewellery; SLS enables complex geometries without support structures; and 3D scanning adds a reverse engineering dimension that connects the physical and digital worlds.

Students trained across this technology breadth leave KKKB with a rounded understanding of additive manufacturing — better prepared to serve the diverse needs of industry.
