3D Gens has taken steps toward formalising a collaboration with IKTBN (Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara), the National Youth Skills Institute, to expand access to 3D printing and Smart Manufacturing technologies in Malaysia's southern region. The potential MoU represents another milestone in 3D Gens' growing network of institutional partnerships dedicated to building the country's additive manufacturing workforce.
Showcasing the Technology
As part of the engagement, 3D Gens conducted demonstrations of 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies for IKTBN representatives. Live demonstrations are a powerful tool — seeing what the technology can do in person, rather than through a brochure or presentation, transforms abstract capability into concrete possibility. IKTBN participants were able to see the range of applications, from prototype development to reverse engineering, and understand how these tools fit into a modern manufacturing education programme.
Equipping the Next Generation
IKTBN's mandate centres on skills development for Malaysia's youth — preparing young Malaysians for employment and entrepreneurship in technical fields. The inclusion of 3D printing and Smart Manufacturing technologies in IKTBN's curriculum would expose a significant cohort of young Malaysians to tools that are reshaping global manufacturing.
The southern region has a strong manufacturing base, including automotive, electronics, and industrial sectors — all of which increasingly incorporate additive manufacturing in their operations. Building AM competency in youth trained in the south creates direct alignment with regional industry needs.
A Partnership in Progress
The path to a formal MoU involves curriculum alignment, equipment planning, and operational agreement between both parties. 3D Gens is committed to working through this process carefully, ensuring the resulting partnership delivers genuine, lasting value to IKTBN students and the institutions they serve.
