GENSx170 Bioprinter Now Supporting Postgraduate Research at USM

The GENSx170, 3D Gens' locally developed 3D bioprinter, has found a new home in the hands of postgraduate researchers at the School of Materials, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The machine is now actively supporting advanced research and innovation in bioprinting at one of Malaysia's leading research universities.

A Homegrown Bioprinter in Academic Research

The GENSx170 represents a significant achievement for 3D Gens — a bioprinter designed and built in Malaysia, now contributing to frontier research in a university environment. Its adoption by USM postgraduate students is a meaningful validation of the machine's capability and reliability for serious scientific work.

Bioprinting sits at the cutting edge of materials science and biomedical engineering. Researchers working with bioprinters explore applications ranging from tissue scaffolding and drug delivery systems to in-vitro testing platforms. The presence of a reliable, locally supported bioprinting system at USM gives researchers a significant operational advantage — direct access to technical expertise from the machine's developers when challenges arise.

Supporting Malaysia's Research Ecosystem

The collaboration between 3D Gens and USM reflects a broader pattern in 3D Gens' approach: developing technology locally and then channelling it into the research institutions that can push its boundaries. Each academic partnership not only advances the research being conducted — it also feeds findings back to 3D Gens, informing future development of the GENSx170 and subsequent bioprinting systems.

For Malaysia's additive manufacturing sector, having domestically developed bioprinting equipment actively deployed in postgraduate research programmes is a step toward greater technological self-sufficiency and research capacity in the biomedical space.
